Millard writes that he would be pleased if Virgil wrote the section on Markham's infatuation with the teachings of Thomas Lake Harris. He asks if Virgil has seen the current issue of Life Magazine which includes a picture of Millet's Man with the Hoe" accompanied by Markham's poem. He also denegrates the letter sent by the President of the Markham Memorial Association as poorly written. He notes that Virgil and Kit have visited Canada and probably observed the War preparations. Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
